A Review of Pete Hegseth
In today’s post I’m going to review a member of Trump’s cabinet who’s been at the center of a lot of controversy, Pete Hegseth. Hegseth currently serves as defense secretary of the U.S. and has overseen many changes within the military under Trump’s guidance. He’s also been put under an international spotlight due to his strikes on Venezuelan boats. Hegseth defended these strikes by claiming that they were targeting drug traffickers who were poisoning American citizens with their products. There’s been a lot of debate over the legality and justifications given for these drone strikes, and I don’t see any real benefit to be gained from these strikes asides from showing off military might. Hegseth himself has a very spotty history, having cheated on two of his previous wives with his current wife, a history of being an alcoholic, and being involved in multiple hazing incidents.
When presidents pick people to represent our country on a global level I expect some level of moral standards when it comes to the person that you pick. By having an adulterous, aggressive, and potential alcoholic defense secretary the Trump administration is putting national security at risk, and I agree with the many calling for him to resign. Recently, he’s only gotten more involved with Venezuela, even capturing their sitting president in a move that defies international diplomacy. He’s also been attacking veterans of our military, threatening to take away retired veteran Mark Kelly’s retirement pay over comments made criticizing the Trump administration. His recent actions have only served to weaken morale among our troops and threaten conflict with Venezuela and its allies such as China. Hopefully none of his actions lead to further conflict and dissent, but I can only hope. As always, stay healthy and stay aware!
