Unlocking insightful thoughts on today's politics

Kash Patel and the FBI’s descent

Kash Patel is perhaps the oddest individual I’ve covered on this blog, thanks to his odd demeanor in public and insane personal life. He’s one of the most blatantly unfit officials in our federal government and has embarrassed the country multiple times in his short time as director of the FBI. Patel was the reason behind a lot of the chaos following Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Usually when political assassinations and other crimes occur in America citizens look to the FBI for answers and to bring justice to the perpetrators. The FBI under Kash failed miserably at this, Charlie Kirk’s assassin Tyler Robinson remained free for several days after the assassination and was only caught when he turned himself in to his father. During the manhunt Patel himself made a post on X claiming that someone had been detained for the assassination. People were initially impressed and hopeful after reading the news, only for various news sources to publicly humiliate the FBI by proving there was no suspect in custody.

The FBI has held a reputation throughout its existence as a well trained, competent, and organized federal agency, so how did it have such an egregious information mishap in the middle of a very public investigation? The answer lies in Patel’s recent “restructuring” of the FBI. Instead of keeping experienced and tested bureau veterans Patel opted to fire them and replace them with younger employees aligned with the Republican party. When it comes to national security politics should have no weight compared to proven capability, but Patel’s hiring philosophy seems to revolve around loyalty to him and the Trump administration above all else. In my personal opinion Kash Patel is the worst FBI director America has ever seen, and he’s only been in office for a year! Not only has Patel failed miserably on a professional level, but his personal life is a mess too. One of his vices seems to be travel, which has already cost taxpayers millions of dollars. Patel uses his government issued private jet multiple times a month just to visit his girlfriend.

He’s also removed SWAT officers from actual police work and instead uses them as private security for his girlfriend. When the news of this came out it was a scandal, and he’s attracted criticism from both Republicans and Democrats because of it. Besides his plane usage, he’s also made some incredibly awkward public statement such as in his speech following Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Patel uses the phrase “I’ll see you in Valhalla brother” in an otherwise very serious and methodical press conference. This moment drew even more ridicule upon himself because people saw his speech as very unprofessional and even attention seeking. Patel is a symptom of the recently worsening problem of partisanship in the federal government, and if we want to keep our federal agencies respected and capable we need prevent political actors like Patel from leadership roles as much as we can. As always, have a great day and keep an eye out for more posts!
